Lyse Lemieux’s interdisciplinary practice focuses on drawing, and includes painting, sculpture and installation. In recent years Lemieux has expanded her practice to include outdoor large scale Public Art with projects that consider the physical, emotional and communal environments public space can offer. Through considerations of process and materiality Lemieux’s work continues to explore the space between abstraction and representation, while maintaining a strong connection to the human and sometimes not so human figure.

Originally from Ottawa Lyse Lemieux attended the University of Ottawa and graduated with a BFA from the University of British-Columbia. She has exhibited nationally and internationally including the Canadian Cultural Centre; Rome, the Vancouver Art Gallery; Vancouver, Oakville Galleries; Toronto, Richmond Art Gallery; Richmond, BC, The Charles H. Scott Gallery; Vancouver, Trépanier-Baer Gallery in Calgary, Katzman Contemporary, Toronto; WAAP; Vancouver, SFU Gallery; Burnaby and, the Contemporary Art Gallery in Vancouver.

Lemieux has been awarded grants from the BC Arts council, the Canada Council and is the 2017 recipient of the VIVA AWARD granted annually by the Doris and Jack Shadbolt Foundation for the visual Arts. Adjudicated by an independent jury the VIVA is awarded to a mid-career artists for outstanding achievement and commitment to the Visual Arts.

Recent projects and exhibitions include a solo exhibition at the Art Gallery at Evergreen art Centre in Coquitlam, British-Columbia and an exhibition of new paintings at the Loftyart Gallery in Taiwan, Tapei. Two large-scale public artworks were completed and installed in Vancouver in 2020 and 2021.. Lemieux is currently working on a new public project in Burnaby, BC scheduled to be installed in 2025.
